Marriage And Why It Shouldn't Be A Compromise

Everyone is probably familiar with the old adage that marriage is all about compromise. However, that shouldn't be the case all the time. Your marriage start to look like a constant business negotiation if every issue is about compromise and it's likely someone will feel slightly cheated. This can lead to resentment and bitterness. A great deal of compromise may be needed in a lot of marriage issues but there are times when you should just give in. In other words, be smart when picking your battles.

Giving 50% all of the time is not what each spouse in a marriage should be doing. This is half of what you have give which is not a good thing. Giving 100% all of the time is what you should be doing. All of your commitment and effort is what you will be giving your marriage then. It's important to meet halfway in the name of compromise and but for the sake of your spouse's happiness, you should also be willing to give in at times as well.

When it's only convenient for you and your partner, then romance isn't really romance. If you think about romantic holidays or occasions like birthdays or Valentine's Day for the rest of the year, only then are they truly romantic. Spending a lot of money is also not necessary. Offer to stop on the way home to pick something up for dinner. Drop your spouse off and pick him or her up at the airport for business trips. With the housework, cooking, and childcare, you should pitch without being asked to.

Don't waste your time mulling over how to be romantic and just do it. There can be romance even in little gestures. By spending a lot of time thinking about it, you will only end up talking yourself out of it. Besides worrying about being rejected, you will also be afraid that your spouse won't notice your gesture. That's why you should just do it and don't think about it.

The first step in becoming more romantic is by listening to your spouse. This isn't just about listening to what they want, but you should also listen to their feelings, their failures, and their successes. By listening to your spouse with your eyes and ears and heart, you will show that person how committed you are to him or her. This is a deed that your spouse will definitely notice. You will know exactly what to do to keep the romance alive with him or her and you will also get an in-depth look into their soul. Giving you the opportunity to fall in love all over again is being supportive and thoughtful.
